What is Progynon Depot?
Progynon Depot containing the active ingredient estradiol valerate is a naturally occurring form of the main female sex hormone that is produced by the ovaries, estrogen. The medication can be used to treat hot flushes or vaginal dryness, itching and burning in women who are experiencing menopause. Young women who do not produce enough estrogen naturally may use it as hormone replacement treatment. The injection is also used sometimes to relieve the symptoms of certain types of prostate cancer in men.
How is Progynon Depot used?
Progynon Depot is usually injected once every 1 to 2 weeks into a muscle or as directed by a doctor. If you are using the medication at home, learn all preparations and usage instruction from a health care professional before applying. Before using, check the product visually for particles or discoloration and if either is present, do not use the liquid. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage, treatment start date and cycle as well as length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Patients using Progynon Depot may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

- Jaundice
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Blood clots
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Progynon Depot is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
