What is Provera?
Provera containing the active ingredient medroxyprogesterone acetate is a synthetic form of the female hormone, progestin, which can be used to treat various disorders of the menstrual cycle. The medication can be used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for the last 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause. It can also be used to treat various conditions such as irregular, heavy, painful periods or abnormal uterine bleeding. Some women may also use it to treat a condition where tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus is found elsewhere in the body, endometriosis.

How is Provera used?
Provera should be used as directed by a doctor, usually once per day. The medication should be taken with a glass of water but can be taken with or without food. Contact a doctor for the correct start date, cycle of treatment, length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, crushed, chewed or broken before taking it.
