What is Ramipres?
Ramipres containing the active ingredient ramipril is considered an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors type of medication. It works by decreasing certain chemicals in the body to relax blood vessels and allow blood to flow more smoothly and the heart to pump blood more efficiently. The medication can be used to treat a variety of conditions such as high blood pressure (hypertension) which will lower the risk of strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems and to prevent heart failure in patients who have recently had a heart attack. Some patients may also use it to protect the kidneys from harm due to diabetes.
How is Ramipres used?
Ramipres is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water throughout treatment. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. To avoid severe side effects, your health care provider may start you on a low dose and gradually increase your dosage.
