What is Ranx?
Ranx containing the active ingredient ranolazine is considered an anti-anginal type of medication. The medication works by improving blood flow and increase the oxygen supply to the heart to help the heart work more efficiently. It can be used to treat chronic angina pectoris (chest pain) but cannot be used during an acute attack of angina.
How is Ranx used?
Ranx is usually taken orally 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, crushed, broken or chewed prior to consuming. It is recommended to avoid consuming grapefruits and grapefruit juice as it may alter the amount of the drug in the bloodstream.
Adverse effects
Patients using Ranx may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Constipation
- Weakness
- Hot flushes
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Irregular heartbeat
- Fainting
- Tremors
- Ringing in the ears
- Mental or mood changes
- Blurred vision
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ranx is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
