What is Rectogesic Ointment?
Rectogesic Ointment containing the active ingredient glyceryl trinitrate is considered a nitrate type of medication. The ointment is used to help relieve pain associated with anal fissures, a tear in the skin lining the anal canal often caused by passing hard stools. The medication works by reducing anal pressure and increasing blood flow to help the tear heal.
How is Rectogesic Ointment used?
Rectogesic Ointment is usually applied topically every 12 hours or as advised by a doctor. The ointment should be applied using a finger or finger cot directly to the anal canal. Squeeze the medication on the end a finger and gently insert it approximately 1cm into the anus. Wash your hands or dispose of the finger covering immediately after using the medication. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy.
