What is Relpax?
Relpax containing the active ingredient eletriptan is a selective serotonin receptor agonists commonly known as a triptan. It works by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain and reduces substances in the body that can trigger pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. It can be used to treat migraine headaches when they occur but cannot be used to prevent headaches or reduce the number attacks.
How is Relpax used?
Relpax should be taken at the first sign of a migraine headache or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. If the migraine comes back after the initial dose, it is possible to take another dose after 2 hours. It is not recommended to take more than 80mg in any 24 hour time period.
Adverse effects
Relpax may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Tingling
- Numbness
- Nausea
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Non migraine headache
- Heavy feeling in the body
- Dry mouth
- Upset stomach
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Difficulty breathing
- Chest pain
- Confusion
- Vision problems
- Bloody diarrhea
- Slow or difficult speech
Warnings
The medication can be used to treat migraine headaches but should not be used for non migraine headaches.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Relpax is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
