What is Respidon?
Respidon works by changing the activity of certain natural substances that act on the nervous system to restore mental balance in the brain. The active ingredient risperidone belongs to a class of medications called atypical antipsychotics. The medication is the most common drug to treat schizophrenia and other mental or mood disorders such as bipolar disorder and mania to help you think clearly and take part in everyday life. Some people may also use the medication on children between 5 and 16 years of age who are diagnosed with autism to treat and reduce irritability and aggressive behavior.
How is Respidon used?
Respidon should only be taken as directed by a doctor, usually 1 to 2 times per day. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the therapy. Your health care provider may advise you to start on a low dose and gradually increase to the optimal dosage to allow your body to slowly adjust to the medication. Do not adjust the treatment without consulting your doctor.
Adverse effects
Respidon may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Upset stomach
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Weight gain
- Nausea
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Drowsiness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Unwanted breast milk, missed or stopped periods
- Decreased sex drive or ability
- Drooling, tremors or seizures
- Difficulty urinating
- Vision problems
- Insomnia
- Muscle or joint pain
Warnings
The medication may be mixed with a small amount of liquids such as water, coffee, orange juice or low fat milk to consume but should never be mixed with cola or tea.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Respidon is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
