What is REVOCON?
Revocon containing the active ingredient tetrabenazine is considered a monoamine depletory type of medication. It works by depleting the stores of certain neurotransmitters within the nerve cells in the brain to restore normal functioning of the brain and nervous system. The medication is mainly prescribed to treat chorea (uncontrollable movements) caused by Huntington's disease. It can be used to treat the condition but cannot be used to cure the disease.
How is REVOCON used?
Revocon is usually taken 1 to 3 times orally or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting the doctor as abruptly stopping the medication may cause unwanted side effects.
Adverse effects
Patients using Revocon may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Insomnia
- Excessive fatigue
- Cold symptoms
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Difficulty swallowing or breathing
- Depression
- Suicidal or self harm thoughts
- Parkinson's disease symptoms
- Agitation or irritability
- Uncontrolled muscle movements of the face
- Irregular heartbeats
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
REVOCON is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
