What is Risdone-Plus?
Risdone-Plus containing the 2 active ingredients risperidone and trihexyphenidyl is considered an atypical antipsychotic type of medication. It can be used in the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and behavior problems associated with Aspergers syndrome in patients diagnosed with autism. Some patients may also use the medication in the treatment and management of Parkinson’s disease.
How is Risdone-Plus used?
Risdone-Plus is usually taken 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the drug can cause a relapse in the patient’s condition.
Adverse effects
Patients using Risdone-Plus may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Upset stomach
- Anxiety
- Agitation
- Constipation
- Weight gain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Orthostatic hypotension
- Blurred vision
- Menstrual disorders
- Oedema
- Seizures
- Insomnia
- Acute Toxicity
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Risdone-Plus is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
