What is S Citadep?
S Citadep is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) type of antidepressant. The active ingredient escitalopram oxalate works by preventing serotonin from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain to prolong its mood enhancing effect. The medication is prescribed to treat major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder. Some people may even use the medication to treat and control social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and obsessive compulsive disorder.
How is S Citadep used?
S Citadep comes in tablet form and should be taken orally once daily. The dosage will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s reaction to the medication, consult a doctor for the correct dosage. The patient may not feel the effects of the treatment immediately as it could take 2 to 4 weeks for the effects of the medication to be felt. To reduce side effects of the medication your doctor may gradually increase your dose. When stopping treatment the doctor may also reduce the dose gradually to reduce the risk of a relapse in treatment or severe withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
Patients using S Citadep may encounter side effects such as:
- Drowsiness
- Dizziness
- Insomnia
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Dry mouth
- Decreased sex drive or performance
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Rigid muscles
- High fever
- Excess sweating
- Irregular heartbeat
- Tremors
- Hallucination
- Confusion
Warnings
If the patient is using any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI), it is essential to stop the medication for 14 days prior to taking S Citadep as it may cause a severe drug interaction.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
S Citadep is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
