What is S Citadep?
S Citadep can prolong the mood lightening effect of serotonin by preventing it from being reabsorbed back into the nerve cells in the brain. The active ingredient escitalopram oxalate is known as a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) type of antidepressant. The medication can be used by patients diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and major depressive disorder. Some people may also use the medication to control and treat obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder.
How is S Citadep used?
S Citadep is an orally administered tablet that should be taken once daily. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. The patient may not feel the effects of the treatment immediately as the medication may take 2 to 4 weeks for the full benefits to be felt. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as it may cause a relapse in the patient’s condition or severe withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
S Citadep may cause side effects such as:
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Insomnia
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Confusion
- Hallucinations
- Tremors
- Irregular heartbeats
- Excess sweating
- High fever
- Rigid muscles
Warnings
Stop taking any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) for 14 days prior to starting this medication as it may cause severe drug interactions when taken simultaneously.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
S Citadep is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
