What is Serevent Accuhaler?
The Serevent Accuhaler contains the active ingredient salmeterol and is considered a long acting beta agonist (LABA). It can relax and open the air passages in the lungs to make breathing easier. It is used as a maintenance treatment to prevent or decrease coughing, chest tightness, shortness of breath and wheezing caused by asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) such as chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Some people may also use the medication to prevent bronchospasms brought on by exercise.
How is Serevent Accuhaler used?
The Serevent Accuhaler is usually inhaled twice daily in evenly spaced intervals 12 hours apart. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. For patients preventing breathing problems caused by exercise, it should be taken at least 30 minutes before exercising and should not exceed one dose every 12 hours. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as abruptly ending the treatment may lead to a worsening of symptoms.
