What is Serevent Inhaler?
The Serevent Inhaler can relax and open the air passages in the lungs to allow for easier breathing. The active ingredient salmeterol xinafoate is considered a long acting beta agonist (LABA). It is used as a preventative and maintenance treatment for wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness and coughing caused by asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases (COPD) such as emphysema and chronic bronchitis. Some people may also use the device to prevent bronchospasms brought on by exercise.
How is Serevent Inhaler used?
The Serevent Inhaler is usually administered in evenly spaced intervals 12 hours apart or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the medication. It should be taken at least 30 minutes prior to exercise when using the medication to prevent bronchospasms. Patients using the inhaler before exercising should not exceed one dose every 12 hours. Consult a doctor prior to discontinuing the medication as abruptly stopping the treatment may lead to a worsening of symptoms.
