What is Siterone?
Siterone containing the active ingredient cyproterone acetate is considered an anti-androgen type of medication. It blocks the actions of male sex hormones and reduces the amount of male hormones the body produces. It is used in the treatment of prostate cancer and to control the sex drive in men with hypersexuality.
How is Siterone used?
Siterone should be taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with or just after a meal along with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the medication.
Adverse effects
Patients taking Siterone may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Decreased sperm count
- Reduced volume of ejaculation
- Weight changes
- Dry skin
- Flushes
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Reduced growth of body hair and increased growth of scalp hair
- Fatigue
- Shortness of breath
- Enlargement and tenderness of breasts
- Osteoporosis
- Mental or mood changes
- Liver disorders
Warnings
The medication should not be taken in patients below 18 years of age or men whose bones or testicles have not fully matured.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Siterone is not always suitable for all patients.
