What is Sofovir?
Sofovir (Sofosbuvir) is most commonly prescribed for the treatment of Hepatitis C. It is often used in combination with a other medications. It can be used to treat genotypes 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Hepatitis C.

How is Sofovir used?
Sofovir (Sofosbuvir) and other medications being taken to treat Hepatitus C are usually taken for 12 weeks. The medications will need to be taken daily and should be taken at the same time every day. It is recommended the you take Sofovir in the morning (to reduce insomnia) and to take it with food (to reduce nausea).

The dosage your doctor precribes for you will depend on several factors. These include the the weight of the patient and the genotype of Hepatitus C Virus that has been contracted. The starting dose is often 400 mg per day but it may be increased to 600 mg per day to acheive the desired results. Your doctor will advise you if you need to adjust your dosage. Never adjust the dose of Sofobuvir without being advised first by your doctor.

Adverse effects
Sofovir (Sofosbuvir) is usually well tolerated. The most common side effects are nausea and insomnia. These side effects can be reduced by taking Sofovir with food and taking your doe in the morning.

Sofosbuvir can also reduce your red blood cell count. Regular blood tests can be scheduled to ensure that your levels are staying within normal limits. The liver can be adversely affected by taking Sofovir (Sofosbuvir). Patients with pre-existing liver problems shouldn’t use this Sofosbuvir. Your doctor will test your liver function on a regular basis while taking Sofosbuvir.

If you experience long-term diarrhea, shortness of breath or heart rate changes, contact your doctor as soon as possible.

Warnings
Tell your doctor of any prescription medications, over-the-counter medications, herbal treatments or nutritional supplements you tare taking. These may have an interaction with Sofovir (Sofosbuvir).

Sofovir (Sofosbuvir) is rarely to be taken alone. A full treatment plan should be discussed with your dctor before beginning treatment with Sofosbuvir.

You should not take Sofosbuvir if you are pregnant. Sofosbuvir can result in birth defects, damage to the fetus, or early termination of pregnancy. It is very important not to become pregnant while taking Sofosbuvir. It is recommended to use mulitple forms of contraception to prevent pregnancy while taking this medication and for 6 months after treatment ends.

Sofosbuvir can cause diarrhea. In this case, make sure your fluid intake is sufficient to prevent dehydration.
