What is Sofracort?
Sofracort containing the active ingredient framycetin sulphate is an anti-inflammatory type of medication called corticosteroids. The antibiotics will help kill bacteria that may cause eye and ear irritations, inflammation and infection. It is used to treat inflammation associated with infection in the front portion of the eye such as blepharitis and infected eczema of the eyelid, allergic, infective and rosacea conjunctivitis, rosacea keratitis, scleritis, episcleritis and iridocyclitis. Some patients may also use it to treat otitis externa and other inflammatory conditions of the external ear.
How is Sofracort used?
When using Sofracort to treat eye conditions, the drops should be applied every 1 to 2 hours for 2 or 3 days and subsequently 3 or 4 times daily. For treating ear conditions, the drop should be applied 3 to 4 times daily to affected ear. Contact a doctor for correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the treatment. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as abruptly stopping the treatment may result in the infection returning and becoming immune to the antibiotics.
