What is Spectra 75?
Spectra 75 can restore mental balance by increasing the amount of certain natural chemicals in the brain. The active ingredient doxepin can be classified as a tricyclic antidepressant (TCA) type of medication that acts on the nerve cells in the brain. It is mainly prescribed to treat and control symptoms of depression or anxiety associated with alcoholism, psychiatric conditions and manic depressive conditions.
How is Spectra 75 used?
Spectra 75 should be taken orally as directed by a doctor, usually 1 to 3 times per day. To prevent an upset stomach it should be taken with plenty of water and can be taken with or without food. Take the medication before bedtime to prevent any daytime sleepiness for patients that only need to take it once daily. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s reaction to the medication and the condition being treated. Do not stop the treatment if the patient does not feel the effects of the medication immediately as it may take up to 4 weeks to feel the effects of the drug.
Adverse effects
Patients using Spectra 75 may encounter side effects such as:
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Nausea
- Lack of coordination
- Blurred vision
- Constipation
- Dry mouth
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
Consult a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Difficulty passing urine
- Tremors
- Fainting
- Seizures
- Hallucinations
- Confusion
- Irregular heartbeat
- Decreased sex drive or performance
Warnings
The medication should not be taken within 2 weeks of taking any monoamine oxidase inhibitor antidepressant (MAOI) as it may cause a drug interaction.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Spectra 75 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
