What is Spick & Span?
Spick & Span is a medicated shampoo prescribed to treat dogs or cats suffering from skin infections such as dermatitis. It contains anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties that disrupt cell wall formation and prevent reproduction to stop the spread of infection allowing the immune system to destroy it naturally. It is used for long-term treatment and may take several applications until the desired effects occur. The veterinarian may prescribe it to be used along with other medications or to treat other unlisted conditions.
How is Spick & Span used?
Follow the veterinarian's instructions for using Spick & Span to ensure the safest and most effective results. It is used while bathing your pet and should typically be administered two times each week, but the best dosage and frequency of application will be determined by the animal's current health condition, symptom severity, and response to other treatments. To use the medicine, wet the animal's hair, put a small amount of shampoo on the skin, create lather, and spread it evenly all over the body. Let the medication soak for ten minutes before rinsing it off allowing it to penetrate the skin. Keep the medication away from your pet's eyes, mouth, nose, and ears to prevent health problems. It is also suggested to use it on a regular schedule to get the most efficient results by keeping a consistent level of medicine on the skin.
Adverse effects
When used correctly and carefully, Spick & Span is normally well tolerated and will not cause any side effects. If you do see any unusual symptoms occur in your dog or cat, contact the veterinarian immediately. Commonly reported side effects include dry, irritated, flaking, or itchy skin. You may be instructed to reduce the frequency of administration or make other adjustments to prevent complications from occurring. If more serious health problems are indicated, emergency medical attention may also be required.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Spick & Span is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
