What is Stromectol?
Stromectol containing the active ingredient ivermectin is considered an antihelmintic type of medication. The medication works by paralyzing and killing certain parasitic organisms in the body. It can be used to treat and control certain types of infections caused by roundworms such as strongyloidiasis and onchocerciasis. Some people may also use it to treat other parasitic infections such as lice and scabies.
How is Stromectol used?
Stromectol is usually taken as a single dose with additional does taken 3, 6 or 12 months later to control the infection. The medication should be taken on an empty stomach at least 1 hour prior to a meal along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. The doctor may request for you to have a stool exam regularly to see if the infection has cleared.
Adverse effects
Patients using Stromectol may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Vision changes
- Joint or muscle pain
- Swelling or tenderness of lymph nodes
- Seizures

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Stromectol is not always suitable for all patients.
