What is Styptic Powder?
Styptic Powder containing the active ingredients ferric subsulfate, potassium alum and zinc sulphate is considered an antihemorrhagic agent type of medication. The medication promotes hemostasis (stops bleeding) by contracting tissue to seal injured blood vessels. It is mainly used to help reduce pain and control minor bleeding caused by clipping nails, docking tails or minor cuts on your pet.
How is Styptic Powder used?
Styptic Powder should be applied directly to the affected area as directed by a veterinarian. Use sufficient powder to thoroughly cover the area and apply moderate pressure until bleeding stops. Repeat application if needed. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage as it will depend on the pet’s condition, the size of the affected area and their response to the therapy. The medication should not be used on open wounds, burns or in body cavities.
