What is Symbal?
Symbal can help restore mental balance by affecting certain chemicals in the brain. The active ingredient duloxetine hydrochloride is classified as a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI). The medication can help improve energy levels, appetite, sleep, mood and decrease nervousness. It is mainly prescribed to treat general anxiety disorders and major depressive disorder. Some people may also use the medication to help relieve fibromyalgia, chronic muscle or joint pain and nerve pain symptoms.
How is Symbal used?
Symbal should be taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication. The medication should not be crushed, chewed or split and should be taken whole to prevent too much of the drug from being released at one time. The effects of the medication may not be felt immediately and may take up to 4 weeks before symptoms improve, do not discontinue the treatment thinking it is ineffective.
Adverse effects
Patients using Symbal may encounter side effects such as:
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Nausea
- Fatigue
- Drowsiness
- Dry mouth
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Seizures
- Painful or difficult urination
- Irregular heartbeat
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Muscle spasms
- Blurred vision
- Tremors
Warnings
Taking the medication along with any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) may cause a drug interaction. It is recommended to stop any MAOI for at least 14 days before starting the medication.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Symbal is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
