What is Symbal?
Symbal is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) that affects certain chemicals in the brain to help restore mental balance. It is prescribed mainly to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorders. The medication can help decrease nervousness and increase appetite, energy levels, sleep and the patient’s mood. Some patients may also use the drug to help relieve muscle or joint pain, fibromyalgia and nerve pain symptoms.
How is Symbal used?
Symbal should be taken orally 1 to 2 times daily or as prescribed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s reaction to the medication and the condition being treated. To prevent too much of the drug from being released at one time, the medication should be swallowed whole and not chewed, crushed or split. The patient may not feel the full effects of the medication immediately as it may take up to 4 weeks before symptoms improve. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor thinking the medication is ineffective.
Adverse effects
Symbal may cause side effects such as:
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Drowsiness
- Diarrhea
- Dry mouth
- Headaches
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Irregular heartbeat
- Muscle spasms
- Painful or difficult urination
- Blurred vision
- Seizures
- Tremors
Warnings
Do not take the medication within 14 days of taking any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) as it may cause an unwanted drug interaction.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Symbal is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
