What is Symbal?
Symbal is a selective serotonin and norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI) type of antidepressant. The medication affects certain chemicals in the brain to maintain mental balance. The drug can help improve your mood, sleep, appetite, energy level and decrease nervousness. It is prescribed to treat major depressive disorder and general anxiety disorders. Some people may also use the medication to help relieve nerve pain symptoms, chronic muscle or joint pain and fibromyalgia.
How is Symbal used?
Symbal should be taken orally as prescribed by a doctor, usually 1 or 2 times per day. The dosage will usually depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. The medication should be taken whole and not split, chewed or crushed to prevent too much of the drug to be released at one time. As it may take up to 4 weeks before symptoms improve, do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor.
Adverse effects
Symbal may cause side effects such as:
- Dry mouth
- Drowsiness
- Fatigue
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Headaches
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Tremors
- Blurred vision
- Muscle spasms
- Decreased sex drive or performance
- Irregular heartbeat
- Painful or difficult urination
- Seizures
Warnings
The medication should not be taken within 14 days of taking any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) as it may cause a drug interaction.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Symbal is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
