What is Tambocor?
Tambocor containing the active ingredient flecainide belongs to a class of medications called anti-arrhythmics. The medication works by slowing and regulating the electrical conduction in the heart muscle to stabilize the heart rhythm. It can be used to prevent certain types of life threatening irregular heartbeat conditions such as persistent ventricular tachycardia and paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. Regulating your heartbeat can also decrease the risk of blood clots and reduce the risk of heart attacks or strokes.
How is Tambocor used?
Tambocor is usually taken orally 2 to 3 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a drink of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Patients using Tambocor may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Vision problems
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Constipation
- Diarrhea
- Loss of appetite
- Stomach pain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Worsening of irregular heartbeat
- Chest pain
- Jaundice
- Insomnia
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Tremors or shaking
- Mental or mood changes
- Oedema
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Tambocor is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
