What is Tantum Gel?
Tantum Gel containing the active ingredient benzydamine is considered a non steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). The gel acts as a local anaesthetic, causing numbness to relieve pain and inflammation at the site of application. The medication can be used to relieve muscular and joint conditions such as strains, sprains, bruises, stiff joints or sore muscles.
How is Tantum Gel used?
Tantum Gel should be applied topically 3 times per day for up to 10 days unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The cream should be rubbed gently into the affected area until it seems to disappear. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the size of the affected area, the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy.
Adverse effects
Patients using Tantum Gel may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Itching
- Skin rash
- Skin redness or swelling
- Difficulty breathing and wheezing
- Photosensitivity
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Tantum Gel is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
