What is Tenormin-50?
Tenormin can be used alone or along with other medications to treat angina (chest pain), hypertension (high blood pressure) and to improve the chance of survival after a heart attack. The active ingredient atenolol belongs to a group of medications called beta blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels and slowing the heart rate to improve blood flow as well as lowering blood pressure and strain on the heart. Controlling blood pressure can help reduce the risk of kidney problems, strokes and heart attacks.
How is Tenormin-50 used?
Tenormin should be taken orally once or twice daily unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. The tablets can be taken to treat high blood pressure but cannot be used to cure the condition.
Adverse effects
Tenormin may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Fatigue

- Upset stomach
- Cold hands and feet

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Tenormin-50 is not always suitable for all patients.
