What is Thyforon?
Thyforon (Levothyroxine Sodium) is indicated for the treatment of hypothyroidism in dogs.
How is Thyforon used?
The recommended starting dosage of Thyforon (Levothyroxine Sodium) is 0.1mg (10mcg) per kg of the dog's body weight twice daily. This may need to be adjusted during the course of treatment to reach a clinical improvement.
Adverse effects
Your dog may show new signs of osteoarthritis or worsening of current symptoms of osteoarthritis due to use of Levothyroxine Sodium.
Other side effects associated with Levothyroxine Sodium display similar to the symptoms of hyperthyroidism. In this case, a dosage adjustment is necessary.
Warnings
Levothyroxine Sodium can cause other drugs not to work as intended and vice versa. Barbiturates, antacids, anabolic steroids, diazepam, furosemide, mitotane, phenylbutazone, phenytoin, propranolol, salicylates and sulphonamides, oestrogens, ketamine, catecholamines or sympaticomimetics and digitalis have all being reported to interact with Levothyroxine Sodium. Make sure your vet knows all treatments your dog is currently taking.
Dogs with hypoadrenocorticism may experience thyrotoxicosis while taking Thyforon. Dogs with heart problems are at greater risk of congestive heart failure when taking Thyforon.
Dogs with uncorrected adrenal insufficiency must not take Thyforon (Levothyroxine Sodium).
