What is Transamine?
Transamine containing the active ingredient tranexamic acid belongs to a class of medications called antifibrinolytics. It is used short term to treat patients with a certain type of bleeding disorder called hemophilia. It helps the blood clot normally to prevent prolonged heavy bleeding caused by surgery, nosebleeds, heavy menstrual periods and tooth extraction.
How is Transamine used?
Transamine is usually taken orally 2 to 4 times per day or as directed by a doctor. It can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. It is not recommended to take the tablets for more than 5 days in a menstrual cycle or more than 6 tables in a 24 hour period. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not split, chewed or crushed.
Adverse effects
Patients using Transamine may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Fatigue
- Bone or muscle pain
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Vision problems
- Chest pain
- Fainting
- Confusion
- Seizures
- Painful or difficult urination
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Hoarseness
Warnings
The medication should not be used if you are not having your period.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Transamine is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed. |
