What is Trazonil?
Trazonil with the active ingredient trazodone hydrochloride works by increasing the amount of certain natural substances to help maintain mental balance. The medication is mainly prescribed to treat depression, panic disorders and relieve certain forms of chronic pain. The medication has sedating effects and is especially effective in treating insomnia and help people with anxiety to relax.
How is Trazonil used?
Trazonil is usually taken 1 to 2 times daily or as prescribed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with or after a meal or snack to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated and the patient’s response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor even if the conditions have improved as abruptly stopping the medication may result in severe withdrawal symptoms or a relapse in the condition.
Adverse effects
Trazonil may cause side effects such as:
- Drowsiness
- Headaches
- Constipation
- Blurred vision
- Vomiting
- Dry mouth
- Muscle pain
- Decrease in sex drive or performance
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Tremors
- Hallucinations
- Problems urinating
- Fainting
- Irregular heartbeat
- Seizures
- Confusion
- Nightmares
Warnings
Do not take the medication if you have taken any monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) in the last 14 days as it may cause an unwanted drug interaction with the medication.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Trazonil is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
