What is Trima?
Trima is known as a reversible inhibitor of monoamine oxidase type A (RIMA) type of antidepressant. It works by increasing the levels of serotonin, dopamine and noradrenaline in the brain to restore mental balance. It is mainly prescribed to treat major depressive disorders, panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. It is usually used if other types of treatment have proven to be unsuccessful.
How is Trima used?
Trima is usually taken orally 2 to 3 times daily or as prescribed by a doctor. It should be taken with or after a meal to prevent an upset stomach. Dosage will depend on the patient’s condition and their reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. The recommended initial dose is 300mg per day and may be increased to 600mg per day. Do not discontinue the medication without consulting a doctor as it may cause a relapse in the patient’s condition or withdrawal symptoms.
Adverse effects
Although very rare, Trima may cause side effects such as:
- Dizziness
- Diarrhea
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Headaches
- Dry mouth
- Constipation
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Confusion
- Insomnia
- Blurred vision
- Anxiety
- Agitation
- Paraesthesia
- Hallucinations
Warnings
Do not start the treatment at the same time as any monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOI), tricyclic antidepressants (TCA), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRI) or serotonin noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (SNRI) as they may cause unwanted drug interactions.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Trima is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
The correct dosage and prescription commonly depend on the patient and the condition being treated. Do not adjust your dosage without the approval of your health care provider. This product is only for use as prescribed and instructed.
