What is Valzaar-80?
Valzaar containing the active ingredient valsartan is considered an angiotensin II receptor antagonist type of medication. It works by blocking the effects of certain chemicals in the blood stream to relax and widen the blood vessels and allow blood to flow more freely and the heart to pump more efficiently. The medication can be used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) in adults and children at least 6 years old or older. Patients can also use it to improve survival rate after a heart attack or a condition where the heart is unable to pump enough blood to the rest of the body called congestive heart failure.
How is Valzaar-80 used?
Valzaar is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as high blood pressure generally has no visible symptoms and some patients may need to use the medication for the rest of their lives.
Adverse effects
Patients using Valzaar may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Dizziness or lightheadedness
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Excessive fatigue
- Stomach pain
- Joint or back pain
- Flu like symptoms
- High potassium blood levels
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Valzaar-80 is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
