What is Vasotop?
Vasotop can be used alone or along with diuretics or cardiac glycosides to manage congestive heart failure (NYHA decompensation grades II-IV) in dogs. The active ingredient ramipril belongs to a class of medications called angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. The medication works by reversing some of the damage caused by heart failure and easing the load on the heart. Some studies have shown using the medication may also reduce the mortality rate in pets with persistent or transient heart failure following an acute myocardial infarction.
How is Vasotop used?
Vasotop should be given to the pet as directed by a veterinarian, usually once per day. The medication can be given orally directly to the pet or hidden in their pet food. Contact a doctor for the correct length of treatment and dosage as it will depend on the condition being treated, the pet’s weight and their response to the therapy. The tablets are scored to make for easier division of the tablets.
