What is Ventorlin?
Ventorlin with the active ingredient salbutamol is known as a bronchodilator that works by relaxing the muscles in the airways and opening the breathing passages. It is used to treat and prevent wheezing, coughing, difficulty breathing and chest tightness caused by lung diseases such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma. Some people may also use the medication to prevent bronchospasms caused by exercising.
How is Ventorlin used?
The Ventolin Inhaler should be taken as directed by a doctor, usually every 4 to 6 hours. Dosage will depend on the condition being treated and the patient's response to the therapy, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. For people using the treatment to prevent bronchospasms caused by exercising, the medication should be taken 15 to 30 minutes prior to exercising. Prior to the initial dose or if the device has not been used in 2 weeks, the inhaler will need to be primed before use. To prime the inhaler, point the nozzle away from the face and apply 4 test sprays in the air. Follow the doctor's orders to correctly administer the medication. For patients that require additional doses, it is recommended to wait at least 1 minute between doses. a
Adverse effects
Ventorlin may cause minor side effects such as:
- Diarrhea
- Dry mouth
- Vomiting
- Insomnia
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headaches
- Nervousness
- Tremors
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Hoarseness
- Confusion
- Chest pain
- Difficulty breathing or swallowing
- Muscle pain
- Irregular heartbeat
- Worsening of stymptoms
Warnings
Keep count of the number of doses administered as the inhaler will need to be replaced after 200 doses.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Ventorlin is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
