What is Vetmedin?
Vetmedin can be used on your pet to effectively reduce the pressure on the heart to pump blood. The active ingredient pimobendan belongs to a class of medications called inodilators that work by opening the blood vessels that take blood away from the heart. It is mainly used as a first line therapy in the management of certain types of congestive heart failure (CHF) in dogs. Allowing the heart to pump blood more smoothly and efficiency can help increase the quality of life and prolong the lifespan of your pet.
How is Vetmedin used?
Vetmedin is usually given to your pet 2 times per day, 12 hours apart or as directed by a veterinarian. Follow the instructions on dividing the tablets closely as they are not split into 2 even doses. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the pat’s condition, their weight and response to the therapy. The 5mg tablets are recommended for dogs that weight over 10kg.
