What is Vetoryl?
Vetoryl is mainly used in the treatment of hyperadrenocorticism in dogs. The active ingredient trilostane works by controlling the adrenal glands excess production of the hormone cortisol and preventing it from being released into the bloodstream during times of stress. The capsules are prescribed for dogs to treat Cushing’s syndrome but cannot be used to cure the condition.
How is Vetoryl used?
Vetoryl should only be given to your pet as directed by a veterinarian. The medication can be given to your pet directly or hidden in their food in the morning. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the pet’s weight, their condition and response to the therapy. The capsules should be given whole and not crushed, split or cut to ensure the correct dosage is administered.
Adverse effects
Vetoryl may cause unwanted side effects such as:
- Depression
- Decrease in appetite
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Lethargy
Contact a veterinarian immediately should side effects persist or worsen.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Vetoryl is not always suitable for all animals. Always consult your veterinarian prior to using this medication if your pet is pregnant, breastfeeding, breeding, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if it has any allergies or other health problems.
