What is Victoza?
Victoza containing the active ingredient liraglutide is considered a glucagon like peptide 1 (GLP 1) receptor agonist type of medication. It is used to treat patients diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. It works by helping the pancreas to release insulin when blood sugar levels are high. Controlling high blood sugar levels can help prevent blindness, kidney damage, loss of limbs, nerve problems and sexual function problems. Controlling diabetes can also reduce the risk of suffering a heart attack or stroke.
How is Victoza used?
Victoza comes in prefilled dosing pens to be injected subcutaneously in the stomach, thigh or upper arms. Inject the medication in a different area of skin each time you use the medication. The medication is usually used once daily or as directed by a doctor. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the medication. The needles should be thrown away after one use and should never be reused.
