What is Wellbutrin?
Wellbutrin works by increasing certain natural substances produced in the body to maintain mental balance. The active ingredient bupropion hydrochloride is classified as an antidepressant. It is mainly prescribed to treat seasonal affective disorders and major depressive disorder. Some people may also use the drug as a smoking cessation aid or treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
How is Wellbutrin used?
Wellbutrin should be taken once daily or as directed by a doctor. The tablets should be taken with some food along with some water to prevent an upset stomach. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition of the patient and their reaction to the medication. It is not recommended to take more than 450mg in a 24 hour period. The tablets should be swallowed whole and not cut, crushed or chewed to prevent too much of the drug from being released at one time. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as prematurely stopping the medication may cause a relapse in the patient's condition.
