What is XTANE?
Xtane containing the active ingredient exemestane is considered an aromatase inhibitor type of medication. The medication works by decreasing the estrogen levels in women who have gone through menopause. This can slow or stop the growth of breast tumors that require estrogen to grow in the body. The drug is generally prescribed for patients when surgery, radiation or other cancer medications have not improved their condition.
How is XTANE used?
Xtane is usually taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication should be taken with or just after a meal along with a full glass of water. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. Do not discontinue the treatment without consulting a doctor as the patient may need to take the medication for several years or longer.
Adverse effects
Patients using Xtane may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
- Hot flushes
- Headaches
- Diarrhea
- Muscle or joint pain
- Excessive fatigue
- Sleep problems
- Increased sweating
- Unusual bone pain

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
XTANE is not always suitable for all patients.
