What is Yasmin?
Yasmin containing the active ingredients drospirenone and ethinyloestradiol is a hormonal contraception commonly known as “the pill”. The tablets work by preventing ovulation during the menstrual cycle as well as making the vaginal fluid thicker and causing changes in the cervical and uterine lining to make it harder for sperm to attach itself to an egg. Some women may also use the pill to regulate the period and decrease blood loss and painful periods.
How is Yasmin used?
Yasmin should be taken orally once per day or as directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken with some fluids. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and timeframe as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the medication. The tablets are usually taken for 21 consecutive days with 7 “reminder” pills to keep you on your regular cycle.
