What is Zeptol?
Zeptol with the active ingredient carbamazepine is a mood stabilizing, anticonvulsant or anti-epileptic medication. It reduces excessive electrical nerve signals to restore normal balance in the brain. It can be used to prevent and treat epilepsy, seizures, trigeminal neuralgia, diabetic neuropathy and bipolar disorder. Some people may also use the medication to treat ADHD, schizophrenia, paroxysmal extreme pain disorder and phantom limb syndrome.
How is Zeptol used?
Zeptol is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times daily with food. For best results it should be taken with water and not liquids such as grapefruit juice as it may increase the amount of medication in the bloodstream. Dosage will depend on the patient’s usage and reaction to the medication, contact a doctor for the correct dosage. Patients may start to see improvement after 3 to 4 weeks, however, patients should not stop the treatment without consulting a doctor as symptoms may relapse and suffer severe withdrawal symptoms. The medication is a control treatment drug and cannot be used as a cure for symptoms.
Adverse effects
Patients using Zeptol may suffer side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Abdominal pain
- Dry mouth
- Headaches
Contact a doctor immediately should side effects persist or encounter more severe side effects such as:
- Jaundice
- Vision problems
- Confusion or hallucination
- Change in amount of urine
- Severe skin reactions
Warnings
Patients with a history of bone marrow suppression, blood disorders or are allergic to antidepressants should contact a doctor before starting the medication.
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Zeptol is not always suitable for all patients. Always consult your health care provider prior to using this medication if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, trying to conceive, using any other medication (prescription or non-prescription), using any herbal products or supplements, or if you have any allergies or other health problems.
