What is Zonimid 25?
Zonimid containing the active ingredient zonisamide is considered an antiepileptic or anticonvulsant type of medication. It works by decreasing abnormal electrical activity in the brain and prevent the excessive seizure causing signals from spreading through the brain. The medication can be used alone or along with other drugs to prevent and control partial seizures in adults with epilepsy.
How is Zonimid 25 used?
Zonimid is usually taken orally 1 to 2 times per day or as directed by a doctor. The medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with plenty of water throughout the treatment to prevent kidney stones. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient’s condition and their response to the therapy. Your health care provider may start you on a lower dose and gradually adjust the dosage for maximum effectiveness.
Adverse effects
Patients using Zonimid may encounter unwanted side effects such as:

- Loss of appetite or weight loss
- Lack of coordination

Warnings
Immediately proceed to your nearest emergency department if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Zonimid 25 is not always suitable for all patients.
