What is Zymox Otic HC 1.0%?
Zymox Otic HC 1.0% containing the active ingredients lactoperoxidase, lysozyme, lactoferrin and hydrocortisone is considered an anti-inflammatory type of medication for pets. It contains no antibiotics and can help destroy antibiotic resistant microorganisms. The medication can also be used as a cleaner to treat acute and chronic otitis externa caused by bacterial, viral and yeast infections. Some factors that predispose the ear to infection can be excessive skin folds in ear, stenosis, floppy ear carriage, suppressed immune system, excessive hair and systemic antibiotics.
How is Zymox Otic HC 1.0% used?
Zymox Otic HC 1.0% should be applied to your pet liberally to their dirty ear, filling the ear canal. Massage the medication into the infected area and allow the pet to shake their head to remove any excess solution. Contact a veterinarian for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the condition being treated and the pet's response to the therapy. The usual dosage is once per day for 7 days when treating an acute infection and once per day for 14 days to treat chronic infections.
Adverse effects
Zymox Otic HC 1.0% is usually very well tolerated with no reported side effects.
Warnings
Immediately proceed to the veterinarian if your pet suffers an allergic reaction. Symptoms usually associated with such a reaction include difficulty breathing or swallowing, chest tightness, swelling, skin rashes, and hives.
Zymox Otic HC 1.0% is not always suitable for all animals.
