What is Zytix?
Zytix contains the active ingredient Abiraterone Acetate, a steroidal antiandrogen used with prednisone to treat metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (hormone-resistant or hormone-refractory prostate cancer). Abiraterone is usually used in cases of prostate cancer where medical or surgical treatments that lower testosterone have not been successful and the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
How is Zytix used?
Zytix comes in a pack of 6 tablets, each containing 250mg of the active ingredient Abiraterone Acetate.
Take only the dosage that has been prescribed by your doctor and try to take this at the same time each day.
Zytix must be taken on an empty stomach (ie. at least two hours after and at least one hour before taking food.).
Swallow Zytix tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablets.
Adverse effects
Zytix can cause serious side effects including hypertension (high blood pressure), hypokalemia (low blood potassium levels), edema (fluid retention), adrenal problems, and liver damage or liver failure.
Symptoms you may notice if you develop any of these side effects are listed below. Tell your doctor immediately if you notice any of these.
- dizziness
- fast heartbeats
- feeling faint or lightheaded
- headache
- confusion
- muscle weakness
- leg pain
- swelling in your legs or feet
- yellowing of the skin or eyes
- darkening of the urine
- severe nausea and/or vomiting
The more common, but less serious side effects associated with Zytix include:
- Weakness
- joint swelling or pain
- swelling in your legs or feet
- hot flushes
- diarrhea
- vomiting
- cough
- high blood pressure
- shortness of breath
- urinary tract infection
- bruising
- low red blood cells (anemia) and low blood potassium levels
- high blood sugar levels, high blood cholesterol and triglycerides
- certain other abnormal blood tests
Tell your doctor if any of the above side effects become troublesome or persistent while taking Zytix (Abiraterone).
Warnings
Some conditions can inhibit Zytix from working as intended. Tell your doctor if you:
- have heart problems
- have liver problems
- have a history of adrenal problems
- have a history of pituitary problems
- have any other medical conditions
Zytix must not be taken by anybody who is pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Pregnant women must not contact Zytix tablets. Make sure to wear gloves if handling Zytix. Tell your doctor if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
Make sure your doctor is aware of all other medicines, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are taking, as these can interfere with Zytix.
Men who are sexually active with women while taking Zytix must wear a condom. If there is a chance female sexual partner may become pregnant while using a condom, another form of contraception must also be used. Continue to use condoms and other contraception for at least one week after you stop taking Zytix. |
