Hypothyroidism

6 methods to prevent hyperthyroidism

  1. Control of daily routine, as well as good and adequate sleep.

It is important for the health of the thyroid gland that a person maintains a balance between work and rest, between time spent exercising and muscle relaxation. In the prevention of hyperthyroidism, special attention is paid to night sleep. Sleep should last at least 8 hours. It is important to sleep in the dark, in silence and always sleep between 00:30 and 4:00 (during the functional activity of the endocrine glands).

  1. Time outdoors and exercise.

Absolutely everyone, regardless of age and gender, is recommended daily walks in the fresh air to prevent thyroid problems. In any weather, from 20 to 60 minutes, shortly before bedtime, you should walk away from busy highways without stopping. Optimal types of physical activity are strength training, yoga, Pilates, any type of cardio training, including swimming and dancing.

  1. Conflict avoidance and competent response to stressful situations.

It is important for thyroid health to learn how to avoid or cope with psycho-emotional stress. This condition is one of the triggers for the development of hyperthyroidism. It is necessary to help the body to adequately respond to stressful situations. It can be one or a combination of several methods – physical relaxation, breathing exercises, autogenic training, medication (Relaxedin, Validol), meditation and other forms of relaxation.

  1. Eating foods necessary for thyroid health.

To prevent hyperthyroidism, add the following foods to your diet:

  • seaweed or other algae, cod, tuna, mackerel, seafood, walnuts and pine nuts;
  • Brazil nuts, eggs, chicken breast, turkey, sardines, halibut, brown rice, barley, whole grain oats, garlic, onions, spinach, mushrooms, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds;
  • sesame oil, parmesan and other cheeses, beef, almonds, hazelnuts, parsley, dill, basil, herbs, bream, salmon, sea bass;
  • apples, persimmons, bananas, apricots (dried apricots), cranberries, blueberries, feijoa, kiwi, olives.

It is necessary to eat all these foods taking into account the individual characteristics of the thyroid problem. To prevent the development of hyperthyroidism, be examined regularly. Check your health and listen to the recommendations of a specialist.

  1. Reduce consumption of certain foods.

For thyroid health, avoid overeating:

  • soy – consuming large amounts of soy can damage the thyroid gland. Isoflavone compounds in soy interfere with iodine absorption. You don’t need to avoid soy, just limit your intake and eat minimally processed soy products;
  • cruciferous – all kinds of cabbage, radish, lettuce. They contain substances that interfere with the thyroid gland. It is not necessary to refuse cabbage completely, it is important to eat less and only after heat treatment;
  • sweets, starchy foods, products with added sugar;
  • strong tea, coffee and other similar drinks.
  1. Take dietary supplements to support the thyroid gland.

You can also take supplements, vitamins and minerals such as iodine and selenium in addition to a balanced diet. But all these supplements are best taken only after consultation with a specialist.
