Hypertension diet is an important component in stabilizing high blood pressure and then restoring normal cardiovascular function. When following a diet, people with hypertension should eliminate a large list of harmful foods from their diet.
Foods not recommended for hypertension:
- Hot peppers, canned food, smoked meats, canned pickles and tomatoes, horseradish and mustard;
- Salt is the most dangerous food on this list. To improve the taste of food it can be replaced with spices or lemon juice;
- Animal fats: lard, fatty fish, fatty meat, butter, fatty dairy products (cheese, baked milk, fermented milk, cream, sour cream);
- Sweets and sugar (ie simple carbohydrates): puff pastry, cakes, butter cakes, cocoa, milk chocolate;
- All types of alcoholic beverages, as well as strong coffee and tea (tea and coffee can be drunk only in non-concentrated form).
Most of the foods listed above are difficult to digest, so not eating them is a good solution not only for people with hypertension, but also for people who prefer to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Foods recommended for hypertension:
- Any vegetables (steamed or stewed). They help normalize cholesterol levels. It is not recommended to fry vegetables;
- Legumes, nuts and cereals are good sources of energy for the body and are high in calories;
- A variety of fruits, berries and dried fruits (both local and exotic): apples, pears, avocados, strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, watermelons, melons, etc.;
- Low-fat dairy products (low-fat sour cream, cheese, milk) and meat. Meat dishes should be steamed or stewed without the use of fat / vegetable oil. Beef, veal, chicken, rabbit and turkey will be an excellent option;
- Low-fat seafood, including hake, perch, trout, salmon, pike perch, shellfish, squid and others.
- Sugar or jam, as well as honey, can be in the diet in very moderate amounts;
- Whole grain rye bread.
Also, attention should be paid to drinking. People with hypertension need to drink at least 1.5-2 liters of water a day. You can drink plain water or replace it with unsweetened compotes, tea and other beverages that do not contain harmful components and are not prohibited products.
Depending on the stage of hypertension, doctors prescribe special diets to optimize the diet, taking into account the current progress of the disease.
If you suffer from hypertension, be sure to consult a specialist. They will choose the optimal diet, taking into account the degree of disease and individual characteristics of your body. Adherence to a diet is the basis of effective treatment of hypertension at all stages of its development. If you are diagnosed with high blood pressure, you need to change your lifestyle and, if necessary, start taking medication (such as Aquazide, Arkamin). Lack of timely and quality treatment can lead to rapid exacerbation of the pathology.
