Muscle spasms. Part 2

If cramps are not a systemic phenomenon and they are not the result of serious illness than you can get rid of them with simple things. Here are some of them:

  • Stretching. If you have cramps of the calf muscle, put your foot on your heel, straightening your knee, leaning against it, and grasp your toe, gently pulling it on you and feeling the sprains. The second leg can be slightly bent at the knee for greater comfort and lower inclination.
  • Massage the affected area. It is important to immediately restore blood circulation, and for this purpose, it is useful to do an intensive massage: stretch the caviar, foot or brush, do the rubbing or tingling, grabbing not only the skin but also the muscles.

If you have convulsions of the body during epilepsy (an epileptic fit), you will also need emergency help. Of course, it is necessary to call a patient`s doctor immediately, but first aid should be given before his arrival. Lay the victim to one side, surround his body with something soft (pillows, twisted blanket).

How are convulsions treated?

If seizures are a concern due to a disease, it is first of all necessary to make a diagnostics and identify the true root cause of the symptoms, such as muscle spasm. The focus will be on treating a specific illness that can lead to seizures. For the most part, that will be enough.

As additional measures, local anti-inflammatory therapy can be performed (for example, if convulsions concern the Achilles tendon), muscle relaxants and other medications, vitamin-mineral complexes (such as Arthroblock forte, Vetri-Science GLYCO-FLEX III) are prescribed, various physiotherapy procedures are performed (laser therapy, magnetotherapy, electrotherapy, massage, etc.).

Treatment by folk remedies

If seizures do not bother you very seriously and frequently, but still regularly, you can use recipes that have proven themselves over time. They can be made effortlessly at home.

  • Mustard. It is enough to take a dry powder and mix it with water or with oil. This mixture should be rubbed on the region, which is often subject to spasms. Preferably to do it in the evening for 30-40 minutes, and then rinse skin with warm water.
  • The mustard ointment can also be used urgently to relieve spasm: massage the affected area and the convulsions recede. Mustard stimulates blood circulation very well and irritates the nerve endings, reducing spasm.
  • A bay leaf is used for the same purpose. It should be ground as finely as possible, practically on powder, and oil should be added there. Lubricate the muscles with this ointment by analogy with mustard.
  • If the spasm is observed mainly in the muscles of the foot, it is advisable to rub the feet with lemon juice or vinegar, and then put on cotton socks. Such a compress can be left overnight. The procedure is advised to do regularly, every evening for 2-3 weeks.

Preventive measures against the cramps

If you have constant physical activity or fatigue or are very active in sports, it will not be superfluous to include preventative measures in your habits to prevent cramps from occurring in the future:

  • Drink more water. Often the main cause of spasms is a broken water balance or dehydration.
  • Eat properly. Include foods that are good for ligaments and joints (for example, gelatin), fresh vegetables and fruits (including bananas), nuts, legumes, buckwheat.
  • Take a vitamin course: Vitamins C, D, and Group B are especially needed. Do not forget about the micro and macronutrients.
  • Before your workout, as well as before physical activity, be sure to do a warm-up.
  • Try to visit a massage therapist at least 1-2 times a week. Qualitative massage normalizes the flow of lymph, activates metabolism in tissues.

All these measures will help you to avoid appearing of cramps or to get rid of any spasms that have already appeared. But if convulsions are constantly manifested, no matter accompanied it by severe pain, fainting or not, it is necessary to undergo a medical diagnostics.
