What foods to eat during colds? Part 2

We already know that during a cold, we necessarily need beta-carotene, iron, zinc, protein, antioxidants, and polyphenols. But this is not all that can help us fight the disease. Let’s find out what other useful substances will come in handy.

Natural antibiotics
Yes, antibiotics are not only synthetic medicines. Many natural antibiotics are found in garlic (allicin) and onions. The particular sharp of these vegetables and the harsh smell are those things that help to fight harmful bacteria and kill them.

Bioflavonoids
They are needed in order to “disinfect” our body. And you can do it with the help of spices. Mustard, chili peppers, coriander, cinnamon, ginger – all these aromatic spices are capable of killing bacteria and stimulating healing.

Useful bacteria
Do you know where our immunity lives? The main part lives in the gut! That is why the good microflora in the digestive tract is incredibly important. Useful bacteria from fermented milk products – kefir and yogurt can fix it. Studies have shown that daily consumption of low-fat yogurt reduces the risk of contracting a viral infection by 20-25%. In addition, dairy products are also a good source of protein.

Vitamin C
And, of course, the main substance for the fight against colds is vitamin C. And although scientists say that vitamin C is useless for the prevention of colds, it can significantly alleviate the disease if you have already caught a cold. Citrus, kiwi, bell pepper – that’s what you need to eat in case of illness.

What else you need to know?

Finally, we would like to say a few words about products to eat if you are already sick. For ages, chicken broth was considered to be the best meal for the disease period. Why? It’s simple: Chicken contains a lot of protein – and we’ve already mentioned the importance of it. In addition, chicken broth has such trace elements as zinc, selenium, magnesium – they are powerful protectors of our body. The broth facilitates the secretion of sputum and its removal, converts dry cough to wet, reduces swelling of the mucous membranes, and relieves nasal congestion. And this food is easy to digest. If you have neither the strength nor the urge to eat solid foods, boil chicken stock with vegetables and drink it from a cup.

Don’t forget about drinking. Even small dehydration (and we sweat a lot during illness) can lead to complications. So drink plenty of clean water or warm (not hot) tea. During illness, it is better to replace the usual black or green tea with medicinal herbs. Particularly well-proven linden (it has a sweeping effect), chamomile (relieves inflammation), mint (facilitates breathing), calendula, St. John’s wort. Add to the herbs we mentioned above, citrus (lemon or orange), berries and natural honey – it also helps in the event of colds.
The right diet, made up of healthy foods, will not only help you get through the disease easier and heal faster but will also be a great way to prevent colds in the future! Bless you!
