Choose specialized bathing products for dogs.
Proper care for your dog is crucial. Now, there is available a wide variety of dog shampoos. To select the right product, you need to identify for what purpose you need it. Shampoos can be:
-
Specialized.
These are designed to combat parasites (flea and tick shampoos). The composition of such shampoos creates a temporary protective barrier that helps to prevent parasite infestations for several months. These products are not suitable for regular use.
-
For Caring.
These shampoos are suitable for frequent use. They effectively clean your pet’s coat from dirt and eliminate microbes. Care shampoos should be chosen based on the type of coat.
-
Therapeutic.
These shampoos contain plant extracts, oils, tar and other active ingredients that have therapeutic and preventive effect. They not only add shine and health to the coat but also relieve itching, dryness and rashes. Separately it is possible to allocate shampoos with chlorhexidine and salicylic acid (for example, Micodin, Sebolytic, Spick & Span). They are prescribed for dogs and cats for therapeutic and preventive purposes in cases of bacterial (surface and deep pyoderma), fungal (malasseziosis and dermatophytosis), mixed and atopic skin lesions.
-
Dry.
Available in spray and powder forms. Dry shampoos are easy to use and you can groom your pet anywhere. They are ideal for animals that don’t like water. This type of shampoo is also beneficial for regular care of pets that live outside in a private home, as it is not always possible to bathe the dog in such conditions.

Don’t bathe your dog too often.
Dogs living outdoors in insulated kennels have more risk to catch a cold, so it is best not to bathe them in the cold season. After a walk in dirty or rainy weather, a bath is necessary to urgently. Indoor dogs should be bathed much less frequently, while outdoor dogs may require more frequent baths. Every owner should follow general recommendations for bathing dogs and take into account the health of their pet.

Before bathing, necessarily brush your dog’s coat.
Before bathing, brush your dog, especially for long-haired breeds. If you skip brushing and go straight to bathing, the coat can become severely tangled. As dogs have both fur and an undercoat, a special grooming brush is necessary. To avoid tangling make sure to brush your dog at least twice a week.
We must act very carefully around sensitive areas such as the eyes, nose, and intimate zones, as rough brushing can cause pain and discomfort there. After bathing, carefully brush the coat, as wet fur is more prone to damage. To ease brushing, during bathing use a coat balm. Dog balms are the second step in grooming your pet’s coat. After washing your dog with a breed-appropriate shampoo, you should use a balm to add extra softness and silkiness.
