Preparing for IVF: how to overcome the psychological factor

In vitro fertilization, more commonly known as IVF, is one of the most effective methods of treatment for infertility. This is a rather complicated multi-stage procedure, the success of which largely depends on the positive attitude and emotional background of the mother. That is why psychological preparation for IVF is no less important than medication.

After completing the first program, pregnancy does not always occur. Some couples need two, three, and sometimes more attempts. According to statistics, only 20-30% of patients can get pregnant the first time. The percentage may sound mediocre, but it is a very high for those diagnosed with infertility by doctors. If after the first procedure failed in getting pregnant, do not despair. Statistics show that after a year of competent therapy, the indicator reaches 90%. The likelihood of pregnancy after the procedure is not a static indicator. Its value varies depending on many factors.

Here are the most important ones:

  • The psychological state of the mother.
  • Age. The younger the couples, the higher the chances that the program will complete successfully on the first try.
  • Health status. We are talking about the presence of various kinds of diseases (especially in the context of the genitourinary system) that prevent pregnancy.
  • The quality of the drugs used. Preference should give to certified medicines, the effectiveness of which confirm clinically and in practice (such as ZYHCG, Susten Gel or Gestone).

As you can see, the emotional background is one of the key factors.

The preparation of the emotional background of the expectant mother takes place in several stages:

  • You can start working with a psychologist after confirming the diagnosis – infertility. After identifying the cause, continue to work with a psychologist to make informed decisions during execution of the IVF protocol.
  • There are many myths, opinions, fears, intimidations, etc. about IVF. In addition, women preparing for IVF often read the horrors on the forums, which does not prepare them for the procedure at all. The excitement before IVF is completely normal. The main thing is that it does not turn into panic and a feeling of complete helplessness. For this you need:
  • good contact with the doctor;
  • own responsible position;
  • knowledge and understanding about procedures (what, how and why).
  • The last step is preparation for the procedures themselves:
  • preparing the couple for possible mood changes in a woman during the stimulation period;
  • thinking over and planning the waiting period for the result;
  • teaching a woman techniques of relaxation and psychological self-help during medical procedures, etc.

This psychological “tuning” allows women to be more strong and optimistic. This can contribute to further successful IVF, pregnancy and the birth of healthy children.
